I am thinking it would be a good idea if we could come up with a list of "Safe"foods. For instance "almonds", which grow on a tree and are presumably safe in their shells, and Macadamia nuts? Are sweet potatotoes Gm? We know that potatoes are. Does anybody know any guaranteed safe stuff? There are still places you can buy old fashioned seeds, that is if anyone has the energy to plant and look after them. Spinach is pretty easy to grow. Climbing snake beans are also really easy. You can do lots of things with parsley. (Nothing like a bit of rib fillet tossed in parsey and cracked black pepper). Joyfully, I was a bit concerned when you mentioned soy cheese. I know we get bombarded with soy products even when we don't know it.Have you read: Hidden Dangers of Soy Allergens www.nexusmagazine.com/articles/Soy%Allergens.htmlThe Dark Side of Soy: Is it Really Healthy www.healingcrow.com/soy/soy.htmlAttack of the Killer Bean! Are they nuts???
Genetically Modified Food.... http//en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Genetically_modified_food
"The Grocery Manufacturers of America estimate that 75% of all processed foods in the U.S. contain a GM ingredient.
[edit] Future developments Future envisaged applications of GMOs are diverse and include drugs in food, bananas that produce human vaccines against infectious diseases such as Hepatitis B, metabolically engineered fish that mature more quickly, fruit and nut trees that yield years earlier, and plants that produce new plastics with unique properties. While their practability or efficacy in commercial production has yet to be fully tested, the next decade may see exponential increases in GM product development as researchers gain increasing access to genomic resources that are applicable to organisms beyond the scope of individual projects. Safety testing of these products will also at the same time be necessary to ensure that the perceived benefits will indeed outweigh the perceived and hidden costs of development."
Looks like the sweet potatoes could be out, but "Queensland Blue" pumpkins are good to go.

Aussie....good start....did you see in the news yesterday that the US rice farmers are experiencing depression for starters all from this GM rice THEY shoved upon the growers.......
Some of the California rice growers have started a suit against the Frankenscience that started this whole miess....GOOD FOR THEM.......maybe they can make a difference......
Off the top of my head I don't know what is safe anymore......even our home garden is probably using these GM seeds.......good lord help us.....we have allowed Frankenscience to ruin us.....

Sorry I'm such a big mouth, but I had to weigh in here.
I've been a tofu fan for years. I can't find my favorite kind anymore, anywhere. The stuff available now isn't anything like what I used to get. Before, the expiration date was very near the purchase date - I'd have maybe a week to use it. This new stuff, that I won't even call tofu, has a hugely long shelf life - until mid-'07!! It's nasty...won't eat it...such a shame.
Even the organic farmers do not know that their seeds have been GM'd, according to what I heard on FSTV.
Last week, at my fave health food store, the owner was telling me her mom in Okla called and told her that they can't get their seeds to grow anymore. She and her friends used to plant their old seeds for herbs and vegs, but now they won't grow.
This brought to mind the documentary I saw on the farmers being forced to buy new seed every year, at high prices, from the PTB co's. This is one of the reasons farmers in India are committing suicide - forced to take out huge loans just to buy the seed.
It also brought to mind a theory I read on a chemtrail site about how the PTB are radiating our soil so that anything that used to grow will no longer grow - only the new GM crops will grow and thrive.

Sickandtired, what did you mean about the farmers experiencing depression and the rice....did you mean they are actuall experiencing clinical depression from being around the stuff, or the market for their rice has become depressed?
I gave up wheat based bread and now it looks like the rice bread is going to hit the deck, too.

Say, has anybody else read the Google advertising link at the top of this page(could have disappeared by the time you read this)? www.non-gmoreport.com/Order-Non-GMO-Sourcebook/ You can buy the "The Non GMO Sourcebook"for $24.95 or get it free if you subscribe to the monthly report. Looks interesting. Fortunately, it is not such a problem to access non GMO products here(well that's if they haven't been contaminated of course). Really, why on earth would they even consider growing GMO wheat?

I can't believe some of the stuff that goes on......a close friend has access to a cattle lotfeed property(they supply one of our biggest supermarket chains with beef). Apparently, they have just ceased feeding the cattle with local sorghum grain and now feed them with corn imported from the USA.........makes them fatttter!!! (Wonder what else it does for them?).
I just adore cherries and for the past 2 years have been buying them out of season, imported from the US. I couldn't help but be amazed at the long shelf life of the fruit, and the extra sweet, juicy plumpness.......and considering the time it must have taken for them to arrive on the supermarket shelves. GMO, too?? Sob...sob

Aussie..... to clear up the deprssion in the rice farmers.....they are depressed because the rice market is depressed from this GM rice being shoved upon them and now Europe doesn't want it and I don't blame them.......the growers have no say in the matter really....what a shame that is...... .I don't trust the GM rice......I believe GM rice needs to be parboiled first before packaging......what are they trying to break down for us.......why does the GM rice need to be parboiled first......kinda strange don't you think are they trying to break down that extra strand of protein they have created.....look at bags of rice in the grocery stores the long grain parboiled white rice is the GM rice I am sure of it....I have to search and search to find plain long grain white rice...not parboiled....I know how to cook rice I don't need it parboiled for me.... We love a good feast of corn on the cob so when it hit the stores we grabbed some and it was the corn that has the different colors kernels......it was so sweet (like gross sweet) we couldn't even enjoy my corn on the cob this year....it was awful.......never bought any more this year after that..... Why??? do THEY think everyone wants GM foods yet they hide from us what foods are GM? no labels on the GM foods like this is a GM product...nothing???
