FOR THE RECORD I DON'T HAVE M0 YET. IT IS IMPOSSIBLE TO DESCRIBE MY FEELING TO DIANE'S RESPONSE WITHOUT USING CERTAIN WORDS THAT ARE NOT POLITE BUT APPROPRIATE.

Dear Dr. Spencer:
Thank you for writing to me about Morgellons Disease. I am
sorry to hear that you are affected by this condition. I appreciate hearing
from you and hope this letter finds you well.
I would like to take this opportunity to share some information
that I received from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention
(CDC) regarding Morgellons Disease. The CDC informed me that they
have examined approximately 50 photos of lesions or objects submitted
by patients with complaints of Morgellons in the past few months, and
no parasites or other agents have been identified. The CDC also stated
that they are "unaware of credible evidence or definitive scientific
studies supporting an association between [Morgellons] symptoms and
infection with Borrelia burgdorferi (the bacteria that causes Lyme
disease)."
Please note that the CDC recommends those suffering from
Morgellons "to work with their physicians to seek diagnostic testing
using well-defined and reliable tests to explore the stipulated association
with Lyme disease" and to submit "specimens stored under proper
conditions to either state or CDC laboratories for testing" so that the
CDC can continue to work to clarify the cause of conditions described by
those with Morgellons. Information regarding the submission of
specimens can be found at
www.cdc.gov/ncidod/dvbid/misc/bacterial_zoonotic_shipping.htm and
www.dpd.cdc.gov/dpdx. I hope this information is helpful to you.
Again, thank you for writing. If you have any further questions
or concerns, please feel free to call my Washington, D.C. staff at (202)
224-3841, or visit my website at feinstein.senate.gov/.
Sincerely yours,
Dianne Feinstein
