I'm just letting you all know that I haven't been around because I've been at my Fathers bedside. Monday he had a stroke. Then Tuesday, another one. On top of that, he got a very bad case of pneumonia from the fluids being aspirated while he was having the strokes.
But, there have been many precious people praying for Dad, as well as me crying my heart out to God on his behalf! Because, although Dad is 92, he was being tossed aside for his age when there were things they could do to help him recover and feel better even if he didn't!! But they didn't want to!
Even after the 1st one, the Dr told me that my 'Dad is 92', and to just to let 'nature take it's course' and not give him an IV or antibiotics for the pneumonia caused by aspirating the fluids that filled his mouth from the stroke. I have been there fighting tooth and nail for the decent common help anyone should get.
You see, my Dad was ALERT, still trying to talk, and after the first stroke, you could easily understand what he was trying to say. He had a second one, and then he really couldn't swallow, and I had to stand in the hallway and let them know that I was going to stand there until I SAW them put in the IV the Dr ordered. He actually said he did order one, and didn't know why it wasn't there that very first morning. Then, I had to DEMAND antibiotics. I had to get a new nurse from there involved, who got Hospice to help me, and that Nurse gave him a shot in the behind of antibiotics, and he was improving by the next day. He still has some congestion, but nothing like it was!
He sits and talks a little with me, watches Animal Planet, which he asked for by name, and he uses BOTH hands they said he'd never be able to use again! They may wobble a bit, but he can take off and put on his glasses. He asks to listen to his Elvis "He Touched Me' Gospel albums, and his Charlotte church CD.
This man who would 'never talk or focus again' asked me yesterday when I had come home for a short break, 'Where have you been'? He says Good night, and I love you. Last night, he asked if there was anything he could do for ME!!! LOL! I said Daddy, just get better, that's all, because I'm here to do for YOU!
He still tried to joke with us.
People, I love my Daddy...yes, he is 92, but he deserves to die in comfort of that can be given. And like I told them, he is like the energizer rabbit, he just keeps on going! And that they don't know my Daddy...my Heavenly Father, or my earthly Daddy! Because GOD decides when it is someones time to go, not people who just don't want to have to spoon feed someone because it takes more work!
I appreciate everyone on this board, and am sorry if I've seemed different when on, or insensitive in any way! I care about all of you.
Thanks for being here, for me, and for each other! You all are such wonderful people!
Blessings to you all,
Celia
