Hello Everyone,
I started noticing symptoms of what is called Morgellons about 6 months ago. In the beginning, I didn't experience any sensation of something crawling on my skin, itching, or biting. I would find myself scratching an area of my arm or leg. I would then get a hard nodule/lesion about a half inch in diameter. I would experience intense itching and swelling of the skin around the nodule. The more I scratched, the more intense the itching and swelling. The nodule would ooze a clear gluttonous substance.
I tried using Benedryl cream, Neosporin, and Campho-phinique. The Campho-phinique seemed to work best in decreasing the itching and swelling. After about a week each nodule would heal and the itching would subside. The Neosporin seemed to help with the healing.
Each time one nodule healed, another would occur after I scratched an area without experiencing any biting or crawling sensation. I still don't know why I would scratch without experiencing any itching, biting or crawling.
I eventually started experiencing the biting, crawling (mostly on my scalp) and intense itching mostly on my legs and arms; which resulted in the nodules/lesions and swelling when I scratched. I was convinced I had scabies.
I finally went to a dermatologist who assured me I did not have scabies which was a relief of sort. He also kept talking and ignoring what I was saying as far as my symptoms. He did inspect my scalp and back, but proclaimed he saw nothing crawling. He totally ignored me when I stated something was biting me and he did not look at the healed areas of my arms and legs where I had scratched even though there are visible healed scar tissue.
I realized he believed I was delusional even though he didn't state that specifically. His continued talking and ignoring most of what I told him I was experiencing, was indication enough.
The only good thing about my visit - he gave me a prescription for Eurax (crotamiton USP) cream and told me to purchase Sarna anti-itch lotion. I made a decision that I would NOT scratch any area of my body no matter how intense the itching. Each time I have an intense itch, I apply the Eurax cream or the Sarna lotion.
Sometimes the Sarna works better than the Eurax cream in alleviating the itching. I have not had the nodules/lesions or swelling since I have not scratched. The scratching of the itchy area seems to be the catalyst that causes the nodules/lesions.
I'm still experiencing both the crawling sensation on my scalp, biting and itchiness. I just refrain from scratching.
I hope something I've posted will help someone.
Love to all!
