Dear all,
As a PhD geochemist, I like to do some chemical research at home from time to time (i.e. very much a geek). While doing some electroplating (using aluminium foil as the "power source"), I made up a solution that had morgellon "spore capsules" (triangular shaped , with a harpoon-like hypha for burrowing), "snail forms", thread like "nematode forms" and miscellaneous particles jumping into the solution en masse. Within 30 minutes, the bottom of a 300 mL plastic container had a layer of fibres 3 mm deep at the bottom. The solution contained water with about 10% cloudy ammonia, 5 % silver tarnish remover (thiourea plus sulphamic acid) and about 1/4 teaspoon of copper sulphate. The solution also contained a small piece of lead/tin solder, a wooden "pop stick" (being plated with tin and lead) and a small piece of aluminium foil. The spore capsules were desperately trying to colonise the wood before they were overcome by ammonia - some fibres did generate in the wood.
I haven't done any controlled experiments to work out what the critical factors are that are attracting the fibres. It could be a chemical activity gradient (electron exchange between Al, sulphur compounds, Cu etc), or a particular chemical attractant.
Regards
Steve A

I enjoyed reading this. Don't really understand what it all would mean, but KEEP it Going Buddy! I'm too tired to talk about it all right now, but am glad you posted this! I wish I had a microscope & other things to look into it all. You'd think anyone who is gifted to understand more about these types of odd things would JUMP at the chance to see what WE have SEEN! And look into it further! Glad you are, although I'm sorry you & your Wife share our problem! Gods Blessings, Celia, in Tacoma, Washington USA

steve, does Morgellons have anything to do with ions or ionization? I just thought I would ask as you seem knowledgeable on these things.

Dear all,
the reason i want to know why the "morgies" behave the way they do isn't just scientific curiosity - this "beast" (whether it be alive or machine or whatever) holds so much power is because we know so little about it and because societies at large (at least western societies) are desperately trying to cling on to a belief (delusion?) that something like this couldn't possibly exist in our cosy little world - hence the attitude of "shooting the messengers" (us).
Whatever it is, it is not "paranormal" but shares the universe with us and must obey the same laws of physics, chemistry etc. Therefore it can be destroyed and destroying things is the forte of our species. But we need to know what makes it "tick" first.
The chemical experiment I did might give some clues of how a Morgie swarm/hive/colony finds us. The reaction I carried out produced an electric current and involved some chemical processes comparable with chemical reactions that fuel our bodies. Why the precipitation of copper sulphides is such an attractant I currently have no idea, but at least it is a way of collecting the particles/fibres in one place so they can be destroyed/disposed of (P.S. - ammonia doesn't kill them. janet watched spore capsules/snail forms crawling out of ammonia). Regards, Steve A

Steve,
Thank you for sharing that with us. I do believe ionization is part of this. Do you know how that would work on a human body?
You mention the aluminum and copper. Do you think this might be a form of biomineralization?
I have been seeing much information on the Burgess Shale.
thank you again for the keen observation.

It could be. There has been a lot of research carried out to indicate that microrganisms can trigger/influence the morphology of sulfide mineral particles that precipitate from solution. Many naturally occuring metal ore bodies were formed by bacterially assisted precipitation, and bacteria have been used to grow sulfide nanoparticles with specific properties for special electronic applications.
However, I don't really understand why the morgellons particles would do this - it could be that sulfides provide a framework to allow them to assemble themselves into various morphologies, or they could extract energy from the crystallisation process, or perhaps they are capable of sulfate respiration. That is, the morgellons particles could use the sulfate to sulfide reaction to "breathe" to enable them to "eat" organic carbon.

Steve,
How about energy just from the metal particle. These seem to trigger off this. The copper sulfite can form in pipes right? We have had holes in copper pipes due to electricity running down the pipes. Is not copper the best conductor of electricity and what do we know about "heavy water"?
And what if one is allergic to copper?

Gosh, I wish I could think clear enough to follow and to study and understand this stuff!!
Steve, you sure are a knowledgeable person! Thank God for you helping us to understand these kinds of things better!!
