After eighteen years of allowing me to "own" her (can anyone really OWN a cat?) I had to put down my female cat. She was a pound cat, my wife went and saved her from certain death after our other kitty deserted us. I named her "Turbo" because I am a Porschephile and naming her 930 was sternly rejected by the aforementioned spouse.
About two months ago her eyes began watering and "mattering" really badly.. I had always expected to see worms when this happens, so imagine my shock when my vet said she was parasite free. This was strange, especially since I had looked at some of her discharge under the trusty ole microscope, and noticed she had the same brown (moving) fibers as I... Anyway, the vet came up with some other condition - hyperthyroidism (or was it hypo?) .. this required pills.. and as cat owners know, giving a pill to a cat is an experience best reserved for those who choose to experience life on tranquilizers. Oh boy-
She started getting worse - losing weight although her appetite was incredible! That scrawny thing could eat an entire can of Fancy Feast and look at me wanting more. Appetite thy name is Turbo.
Then something stranger happened, her face began to swell..her upper nose bridge widened to the point of pressing against one of her eyes. Then she started drooling badly. The drool had the same bronze ringed spheres that I had seen in MY nasal discharge! This time I took her to another (local) vet. I asked him if he had ever heard of Morgellons which he said he hadn't - big surprise. Then after examing her and an X-ray (no..not a cat scan) he told me she had a huge tumor in her head, quickly growing towards her brain. He assumed it was cancer. I showed him a picture of the round things and he quickly said - "that's drainage from the tumor, I've seen that before..". Great.
It hit her brain two nights later, locking her up completely. She couldn't do anything except see and hear... All movement gone. I buried here at the lake under an oak tree-
