I have had symptoms for 20 yrs. Seems like it has gotten worse in the last several yrs.
I don't have itches, or crawling sensations, no neurological problems that I am aware of. I am taking some difficult classes in college now and I am making all "A's.
What I have is:
A pimple-like bump rises (usually on the scalp, face, or forearms). Left alone it blisters and the wound opens by itself. It opens faster if it is messed with (as I may try to smash it thinking it is a zit). At this moment I have 12 sites (3 on right forearm, 2 on left forearm, 2 on scalp, 5 on face).
After it opens I see tiny white heads in the sore. I can pull them out with tweezers. The white "plugs" are small ~2-3 mm long. When pulled, the wound bleeds a lot but for a short time. Sometimes there are many of the white plugs in the sore. I can clean them all out and the sore is full of them the next day (or sometimes later the same day). I takes months for the sores to heal and then it is not really gone as I see a scar and can see white balls or plugs beneath the thin layer of skin tissue at the site. Sometimes a new sore will start at the site of an old poorly healed one.
I haven't noticed crystals or rubies....but then again, I haven't placed the matter under a microscope myself. I can remember seeing very fine fibers on the end of my tweezers or fingernail, but I dismissed this without much thought as I thought at the time it was from the paper towel I was using to blot the blood when I was pulling out the white plugs. Next time I see a fiber, I will examine it closer.
Most of the morgellons sites I have visited reference fibers and small crystals. not much attention to the white plugs (although I have seen them mentioned). I suppose this is natural as folks will report on the most unusual aspects of any condition.
My question to you is if Morgellon sufferers commonly report these white plugs, and if so is it a precursor to more stuff like the fibers, etc..
To see what would happen, I once resisted the temptation of pulling the plugs out. When left alone, the sore scabs over and a puss-like substance forms between the scab and the underlying skin. It never heals.
I have been to 3 different dermatologists. The one remarkable common denominator is that they all pretty much ignore my descriptions.
The sores are present at the time of the visit and I invite them to try to remove a plug themselves so they can examine it. They never do.
I once took a vial of plugs that I saved to the dermatologist. He left the room with it and claimed to have viewed them under the microscope, he remark that he "saw nothing". My wife suffers from the same symptoms. One doc told me that my acne-like condition is genetic (he must think I married my sister as I told him my wife had the same condition).
I was an airline pilot for over 20 years (laid off along with 800 other pilots due to company shut down). I am in school to learn a new career in the medical field. I have never used drugs. I am not crazy and not imagining my condition. ( I see with my own eyes and others can see my sores.....).
Treatment I received from doctors (all visits): A tube of hydrocortisone cream and advice that I not "pick at it". It is like the doctors are afraid to even acknowledge the presence of the sores and white plugs. Like they are afraid of ruining their careers or something, just by investigating it.
